Former vice president and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has sent a goodwill message ahead of their clash with Panama.

Ghana takes on their Group L counterpart, Panama on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at the Toronto Stadium in Canada, kicking off their campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Taking to his social media pages, Dr. Bawumia described football as an event that promotes unity among all Ghanaians and people across the globe.

“Football has always been a part of us as a nation, it has always united us, and it brings the world together,” he said.

“As the Black Stars start their journey at the 2026 World Cup, I want to wish them the very best.”

He also expressed confidence in the ability of the players to go far in the competition as they have done before.

“Black Stars, you have done it before and you can do it again,” he said.

“The nation is behind you, and I am also behind you. Go Black Stars and go for gold.”

Dr. Bawumia’s message adds to the numerous support and goodwill messages behind the Black Stars from political figures, entertainers, football fans and Ghanaians as they make their first appearance in the tournament.

The match will kick off at 11 pm local time and government has announced securing broadcasting rights to air the games.
