**Saddick Adams Urges President Mahama to Appoint Trusted Ally as Ghana’s New Defence Minister**

Renowned sports journalist and political commentator Saddick Adams has called on President John Dramani Mahama to appoint a Defence Minister he deeply trusts, stressing that national security requires loyalty, competence, and unwavering confidence between the president and his appointee.
Speaking during a political discussion, Adams argued that the Ministry of Defence is too critical to be handled by an individual who does not fully align with the president’s vision and leadership style. According to him, Ghana’s current security landscape—marked by regional instability, terrorism threats in the Sahel, and internal security challenges—demands a Defence Minister who enjoys the president’s absolute trust.
“The Defence Ministry is not a place for political experimentation,” Adams noted. “The president must be able to trust the person handling the armed forces without hesitation. When it comes to security, loyalty and confidence are non-negotiable.”
Adams emphasized that the Defence Minister plays a central role in safeguarding Ghana’s sovereignty and maintaining civilian control over the military. Any disconnect between the presidency and the defence portfolio, he warned, could undermine effective decision-making at critical moments.
He further suggested that beyond professional credentials, the appointee must demonstrate a strong understanding of Ghana’s democratic values and a proven commitment to national unity. In his view, trust does not only mean personal loyalty but also shared principles and respect for constitutional order.
President Mahama, who is expected to announce key ministerial appointments, has not yet named his Defence Minister. However, Adams’ comments reflect growing public interest in how the president will shape his security team, especially at a time when West Africa faces increasing political and security tensions.
As anticipation builds, many observers agree that the choice of Defence Minister will send a strong signal about the administration’s priorities and its approach to safeguarding Ghana’s peace and stability.
