PSG can put themselves amongst the greatest teams we’ve ever seen

PSG had to wait 55 years to finally get their hands on ‘Ol Big Ears when they romped Inter Milan 5-0 in last year’s final in Munich.

To say it was worth the wait would be a stretch. However, it was the biggest winning margin ever in a European Cup/Champions League final.

And after it was clear to everyone that Luis Enrique’s side was undoubtedly head and shoulders above the rest as the best team in European club soccer.

It’s not just the fact PSG is back in another final which is impressive, but it’s the manner of how they’ve got here which makes it even more admirable.

The Parisians struggled at the start of this season’s campaign, needing a playoff to reach the knockout rounds. Since then, though, PSG has blitzed through to the final with the same swagger and style as it did last year. All it took today was a second-minute goal from Ousmane Dembélé to put the Parisians on track to head to Budapest, even if Harry Kane scored a last-minute goal to get Bayern Munich on the score sheet.

This is the elite competition in the European club game and Enrique’s PSG proved once again how it can change tactics when the moment calls – adopting a more defensive system in the second half against Bayern.

Only Zinedine Zidane’s great Real Madrid team – who won three straight titles from 2016-18 – ever retained their European crown in the Champions League era.

If this PSG side pulls that off, it will be one of the most impressive feats in decades.
