Kenya, Ghana and Togo Set to Host Regional Summit on Gender-Inclusive Legislation

The Africa Centre for Parliamentary Engagement and Accountability (ACEPA), in collaboration with the Parliament of Ghana, is set to convene a two-day Regional Forum on Gender-Responsive Lawmaking and Citizen Engagementfrom November 26–27, 2025, at the Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, Accra.
Organised under the Inclusive Legislatures for Gender Responsive Policies (ILGRP) initiative, funded by Global Affairs Canada, the forum will bring together lawmakers, parliamentary staff, civil society actors, and development partners from Ghana, Kenya, and Togo.
Operating under the theme: “Parliament-CSO-Citizen Collaboration on Gender-Responsive Lawmaking: Experiences and Pathways from Ghana, Kenya, and Togo,” the gathering seeks to advance gender equality and inclusivity in legislative processes by exchanging experiences, strategies, and practical tools across the three nations.
Over the course of the two days, participants will take part in panel discussions, presentations, and interactive sessions focused on: strengthening gender-responsive legislation in African parliaments; highlighting best practices and practical tools that foster inclusivity; enhancing cooperation between legislatures, civil society organisations, and citizens; and leveraging digital innovations to boost citizen participation in lawmaking.
The forum will be inaugurated by Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, with additional remarks from the Canadian High Commission in Ghana, a key partner and supporter of the initiative.
By the conclusion of the event, organisers expect to outline actionable strategies and frameworks enabling African parliaments to craft laws and policies that genuinely reflect the needs and aspirations of women and marginalised communities, reinforcing the continent’s dedication to inclusive and participatory governance.
