Jacinta Ngobese fires back at President Mahama over comments on xenophobia

March and March leader, Jacinta Ngobese, has responded to President John Dramani Mahama’s comments on the recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Ngobese, who is known for her anti-immigrant stance, was reacting to a video shared on X in which Mahama criticised what he described as the South African authorities’ inadequate response to the xenophobic attacks, saying those responsible had been allowed to act with impunity.

“It doesn’t appear that the South African authorities are responding to the magnitude that one would expect them to do. The persons who are fanning these xenophobic attacks are known, and they have been left free to continue to do what they want to do, and so it’s become something they are doing with impunity at very high cost

Responding to the president, she questioned why he was focusing on South Africa instead of addressing the conditions in Ghana.

According to her, the challenges in Ghana have forced many of its citizens to migrate to other countries in search of better opportunities, and those issues should be addressed 

“Why don’t you rather deal with the reason WHY your people are scattered all over the world running away from you as their government??” she questioned on X on July 23, 2026.

President John Dramani Mahama made the remarks while addressing an African Union (AU) delegation at the Jubilee House on the recent anti-immigrant attacks in

South Africa.

Speaking on the negative impact of the attacks, he said Ghana had to evacuate its citizens from South Africa through three chartered flights because of the attacks.

“We had to charter planes to go to South Africa to evacuate our citizens.
