The Elba Hope Foundation, founded by award-winning actor Idris Elba and his wife Sabrina Elba, has made a remarkable investment in Ghana’s creative future by donating state-of-the-art film and studio equipment to the UniMAC Institute of Film and Television (UniMAC-IFT).

The gesture is a major boost for Ghana’s fast-growing film and TV ecosystem, aimed at enhancing learning and giving students hands-on access to professional production tools.

Speaking on behalf of the foundation, Mariam K. Buahin, Chief Operating Officer of Akuna Group, said the donation reflects the foundation’s mission to support education and employability across Africa.

“We see creative industries as a powerful pathway for economic development, innovation and cultural leadership,” she noted, adding that the initiative turns hope into action.

Receiving the equipment, Prof. Samuel Yirenkyi, Rector of UniMAC-IFT, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Elba Hope Foundation for fulfilling its promise, describing the gesture as “a timely investment in the future of African storytelling.”

Formerly known as NAFTI, the institute has trained generations of filmmakers and media professionals since 1978. The donation not only strengthens its vision of becoming a world-class center for film education, but also underscores Idris and Sabrina Elba’s ongoing commitment to nurturing Africa’s next generation of creative leaders.
