Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed the development during a diplomatic engagement, highlighting that Ghanaians will now be eligible for five-year multiple entry visas and a range of improved consular privileges. This policy shift marks the end of a period of strained travel relations between the two nations, which had placed significant burdens on Ghanaian travelers seeking entry into the U.S.
For several years, Ghanaian citizens were subjected to shorter visa durations and more restrictive entry conditions due to concerns raised by the U.S. government over consular cooperation and immigration protocols. These measures not only inconvenienced thousands of travelers, businesspersons, and students, but also symbolized a diplomatic stumbling block between Accra and Washington.
With the reversal of these restrictions, the new agreement restores a sense of normalcy and mutual trust.
