The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially announced plans to honour former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan with a testimonial match, in recognition of his illustrious football career and unmatched contribution to Ghana’s national team.

Gyan, who retired from professional football in June 2023, remains Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances, a record that continues to define his legacy as one of Africa’s most iconic strikers.

According to the GFA, the testimonial match will serve as a symbolic celebration of Gyan’s achievements, leadership and dedication to the sport. The Association noted that the event will also be a moment for fans, former teammates and football lovers across the continent to pay tribute to the man widely known as Baby Jet.

Details about the date, venue and participating teams are expected to be announced soon. However, excitement is already building among fans who have long called for a befitting send-off for the striker.

Gyan’s career spanned over two decades, featuring stints with clubs such as Udinese, Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain and Kayserispor, among others. He also represented Ghana at three FIFA World Cups and multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, earning admiration for his consistency and leadership on and off the pitch.

As the nation awaits official details of the testimonial, the announcement marks a long-overdue moment of celebration for a player whose goals, charisma and patriotism inspired a generation.
