Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has declared his support for Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In a post shared on his Instagram Story, the award-winning musician wrote: “I’m a Ghanaian for this World Cup. The Black Stars have my full support because of President Mahama.”
Davido’s comment comes amid growing excitement ahead of the tournament, where Ghana will represent Africa on football’s biggest stage.
His endorsement appears to be linked to recent remarks by John Dramani Mahama regarding support for Ghanaian fans during the World Cup.
President Mahama explained that the government would not use public funds to sponsor large numbers of supporters travelling from Ghana to the tournament due to the high costs involved.
Instead, he announced plans to procure match tickets for Ghanaian communities already living in host cities across the United States, Canada and Mexico, allowing members of the diaspora to support the Black Stars at the games.
The Black Stars are preparing for their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance and have been drawn in a group alongside England, Croatia and Panama.

Davido’s public backing adds to the growing support for Ghana’s campaign as the Black Stars seek to make an impact at the global tournament.
