Boafo and Kodua Lead the Elephant into a New Era Following Electric Delegates Conference
By Voice of Africa Radio Desk
KUMASI, Ghana — The dust has settled at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) emerges with a refreshed, battle-ready executive roster. Delegates delivered a clear verdict over the weekend: they want a mix of proven organizational muscle and tested leadership as the party charts its path toward 2028.
The headline story of the conference belongs to John Boadu. In a remarkable political comeback, the former General Secretary clinched the top spot of National Chairman with 2,888 votes, edging out Boakye Agyarko (2,408 votes) and Paul Afoko (790 votes) in a contest defined by fierce but fraternal rivalry. Boadu’s return to national executive leadership signals a deliberate push by NPP delegates to install an experienced operational strategist at the party’s helm.
While Boadu staged a comeback, Justin Kodua Frimpong (JFK) demonstrated absolute authority over the party’s engine room. Retaining his post as General Secretary with a staggering 4,486 votes—the highest tally recorded across all executive races—Kodua’s victory underlines deep confidence among rank-and-file delegates in his administrative stewardship.
The dynamic between Boadu and Kodua adds an intriguing chapter to party history. Four years after Kodua unseated Boadu for the General Secretariat, the two heavyweights now share the ultimate responsibility of steering the party together as Chairman and Chief Scribe.
The Rest of the National Slate
Beyond the top two seats, delegates produced a balanced executive team:
Vice Chairmen: Kojo Fosu Boadu led the vice-chairmanship polling with 3,160 votes to claim 1st Vice Chairman. He is joined by former Youth Organiser Henry Nana Boakye (2nd Vice) and veteran politician Nana Akomea (3rd Vice).
National Organiser: Former Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover won a hotly contested battle with 2,964 votes to take charge of the party’s field machinery.
National Treasurer: Alfred Kwadwo Thompson secured the purse strings, pulling 2,243 votes in a four-way race.
Wings & Outreach: Mavis Hawa Koomson steps in as National Women’s Organiser, Abanga Yakubu Fuseini takes the mantle for the Youth Wing, and Mohammed Ali Suraj assumes responsibility for the Nasara structure.
Communications: Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye was officially confirmed as National Communications Director after running unopposed.
The Road Ahead
For the NPP, the real work begins now. Boadu and his team inherit a party eager to rebuild its grassroots infrastructure, bridge internal rifts following intense campaigning, and present a formidable front for upcoming elections.
With the leadership mandate now sealed in Kumasi, all eyes turn to Accra, where the new executive team will outline their strategic roadmap for the party’s future.
