Australia, Canada and UK Mount Coordinated Fight to Stamp Out Visa Fraud in Ghana
The High Commissions of Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom in Ghana have jointly unveiled a week-long public awareness initiative designed to confront the escalating menace of visa-related fraud.
Visa scams continue to impact numerous Ghanaians, as deceptive agents and widespread misinformation lead to financial losses, emotional strain, and long-term travel sanctions.
This collaborative effort forms part of a broader global campaign spearheaded by UK Visas & Immigration, with additional backing from partner nations such as Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.
Launched to align with International Fraud Awareness Week (16–22 November 2025), the campaign aims to enlighten the public about the dangers of fraudulent visa schemes, advocate for secure and lawful application procedures, and encourage applicants to rely solely on official government platforms.
“Australia is honoured to stand with our global partners in the fight against visa fraud. The Fighting Visa Fraud campaign delivers a firm warning — when applying for a visa, always use credible, authorised sources and remain cautious of anyone offering shortcuts or guaranteed approvals,” stated H.E. Berenice Owen-Jones, Australian High Commissioner to Ghana.

“In 2024 alone, 1,632 Ghanaian applicants submitted fraudulent documents when applying for UK visitor visas. Although this accounts for only 4% of total Ghanaian applicants, it represents far too many individuals misled by agents into actions that resulted in a 10-year travel ban. Fraud is never worth the gamble,” emphasized Dr. Christian Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana.
“Canada remains unwavering in its dedication to promoting safe, orderly, and legitimate migration, and we are taking strong measures to dismantle fraudulent practices that endanger applicants.
We are pleased to join Australia and the United Kingdom in the Fighting Visa Fraud Together campaign — a testament to our collective commitment to safeguard applicants, uphold the integrity of our immigration systems, and ensure that people access accurate and trustworthy information,” remarked Myriam Montrat, Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana.
The three diplomatic missions reaffirm their pledge to protect genuine applicants and maintain visa procedures that are transparent, dependable, and accessible to all Ghanaians.
Throughout the campaign, the High Commissions will circulate educational materials on various social media channels, encouraging the public to engage with the initiative using the hashtag #AUSCANUKGH.
