Asantehene Concludes Last-Chance Bawku Peace Arbitration Today

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is poised to issue his definitive verdict on the protracted Bawku chieftaincy disputeon Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
He was entrusted by President John Dramani Mahama to spearhead a comprehensive effort to secure a durable settlement to the decades-long hostilities in Bawku.
The Asantehene’s direct engagement in this peace mission began in April, when he convened delegates from the rival sides between April 28 and 30, initiating a fresh phase of constructive dialogue.
Though the negotiations briefly halted, they reconvened on May 13, during which the King noted that the discussions had ushered in a period of measurable calm and reduced hostilities.

For generations, the Bawku municipality has grappled with persistent unrest, marked by sporadic attacks, loss of lives, and recurring curfews imposed to contain escalating tensions.
These disturbances have crippled economic activities, deepened communal fractures, and amplified nationwide calls for a comprehensive peace accord.
According to the Manhyia Palace, today’s sitting signifies the peak of an extensive reconciliation initiative.
Residents, stakeholders, and national observers eagerly anticipate a ruling that could finally silence the cycle of violence and destruction that has overshadowed Bawku for years.
The much-awaited pronouncement is expected to unlock a pathway toward renewed stability, healing, and socio-economic revival within the conflict-stricken region.
