📌 Veteran Leader Gen. Moses Ali Re-elected as MP for Adjumani West in Uganda’s 2026 Elections

In Uganda’s 2026 general elections, 86-year-old General Moses Ali has successfully retained his seat as Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency on the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
General Ali, a long-serving figure in Ugandan politics and military affairs—who has held high government offices including Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament—secured 12,854 votes, narrowly outpacing his closest challenger, FDC candidate Patrick Tandrupasi, who garnered 11,770 votes. Other candidates, including an independent and an NUP contender, trailed far behind.
His victory follows a competitive NRM primary, where he also overcame internal challengers to clinch the party’s flag, underscoring his continued influence within the party and his constituency.
During the campaign period, Gen. Ali emphasized development projects aimed at transforming his home region, including plans to build the Laropi bridge over the Nile, upgrade health facilities, improve rural roads, and expand water and electricity access. These pledges formed a key part of his appeal to voters.
Despite the electoral success, his candidacy had drawn public debate and legal challenges before the polls, with activists filing petitions to the Constitutional Court arguing that his advanced age and health could affect his ability to serve effectively. Supporters, however, dismissed these concerns, pointing to his deep experience and long record of service in Adjumani West.
At 86, Gen. Moses Ali stands as one of Uganda’s most enduring political figures, with decades of involvement shaping both national and local governance. His re-election spotlights the continued role of seasoned leadership in parts of Uganda’s political landscape amid broader national elections taking place across the country.
